| Chevening Fellowship Programme - Governance and Environmental Democracy | Chevening Fellowships are funded and awarded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom, aiming to provide Fellows with a relevant professional development opportunity through a 3-month subject-immersion course in the UK with a challenging programme of academic, practical, policy and political exposure.
CIDT will be hosting 15 international scholars on the Governance and Environmental Democracy strand of the programme starting in January.
The focus of this course will be on how the inclusion of civil society in decisions affecting the environment can lead to better governance of natural resources and sustainable development. Three overarching themes that will run as a thread throughout all activities: access to justice, public participation and access to information. The Course Objectives are:
- To foster an understanding of the effects of good and poor governance in environmental decision-making and to develop an awareness of the UK's approach to environmental governance.
- To provide them with high quality professional development and a durable and positive impression of the UK.
The Fellows will take part in placements that will be of an active, internship methodology and will be facilitated to go into local schools to inform the pupils about their home countries and the importance of the environmental issues that they face.
