Jamaica All Age Schools Project

Between 2000 and 2003 CIDT managed the DFID funded Jamaica All Age Schools Project (JAASP) in partnership with the Government of Jamaica Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture.

The direct beneficiaries of the project were the children and communities in the most disadvantaged, rural remote areas of Jamaica. JAASP specifically aimed to tackle the key issues of access, quality, retention and equity in relation to rural education.
One of the underlying principles of the project was the building of partnerships between schools, parents, communities, decentralised and national Ministry of Education officers and the private sector to develop improved livelihood opportunities for rural children.
Lessons from JAASP have been applied in the Nigeria Basic Education Programme.
