Date issued: Thursday 5 August 2004

Compton Hospice has received a £1,000 boost from this year’s May City Ball - hosted for the first time by the University of Wolverhampton.

Vice-Chancellor Professor John Brooks was delighted to hand over a cheque to the charity.

The event was a sell-out success with tables booked by many of Wolverhampton's leading businesses and organisations. Among the guests were the Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor John Rowley.

The theme for the event was The Learning City, and the University's Millennium City Building was the perfect venue to reflect this.

Entertainment included a magician and contributions from former students who are carving out successful careers since graduating from the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure.

The Nightingales and the NS All Stars gave guests a taste of the wealth of talent coming out of the University.

Money was raised through the proceeds of a charity raffle held on the night.
